Pornhub’s subsidiary, Tube8 will pay viewers for streaming adult content on its platform. As per a report published on August 17 on thenextweb, Tube8 will see its community of viewers earn cryptocurrency for viewership. A partnership deal has been made to this respect with Vice Industry Token (VIT) blockchain, where the company will aid the tokenization of the adult site.
Cryptocurrencies Make Inroads in Adult Entertainment
Tube8, a subsidiary of Pornhub having over 10 million subscribers and over 150 million views a month, is ready to upstage into earning cryptocurrency for every content being watched via its platform. This also infers that users are able to generate some passive income while enjoying the pleasure of watching porn.
The specific measure of earning is not specified, but planned tokenization of the platform will attract more viewership. As expected, to prevent abuse of its use the mode of earning on the platform might be censored, but building a career on it might be on the horizon considering the terms are not yet stated.
Pornhub might be leading another revolution in the world, via cryptocurrency, as porn movies were the stimulant for the adoption of VHS back in the 1970s and also DVDs in the early-2000s. The trend may lead to full tokenization of the adult entertainment industry.
The implementation of the token system is expected to take effect by the end of 2018, which will make Tube8 the first adult site to adopt token based reward and payment for its viewership, while entirely functioning over blockchain platform.
VIT Token Partnership with Tube8
Tube8’s partnership with Vice Industry Token will reward its viewers by monetizing content through the VIT protocol. Viewers have to create an account and view uploaded media contents to earn tokens.
Robin Turner, a Tube8 spokesperson, as reported by Hard Fork, said,
“For as long as I can remember, getting paid to watch porn was always a pipedream; one that was always dreamed about but never fully realized. Now, however, with the introduction of VIT, we are marking a paradigm shift in how people consume adult entertainment.”
Meanwhile, Vice Token will have to migrate to a forked version of the Steem blockchain known as Graphene, which is aimed at handling 100,000 transactions per second.
However, VIT is an ERC20 token based on the Ethereum blockchain, which handles roughly 15 transactions per second. Keeping in mind 150 million monthly views on the Tube8 platform, Ethereum seems not to be the best platform to handle such load.
Cryptocurrency and the blockchain hasn’t only created an avenue for users to remain anonymous, especially for those who would like to keep their habits a secret, both content producers and their viewers now have a win-win advantage as both the parties derive pleasure while earning.
