The social media platform Meta is making endeavours to compete with its prominent rival Twitter as it is now trying to develop a decentralized application. The latest app will be focused on social networking and its target would be to share text updates, as mentioned by a spokesperson of Meta. The application will operate as a standalone platform. The spokesperson stated that the company is attempting to make a social network application for text-update sharing.
Meta Intends to Develop a Social Networking-based Decentralized Application to Share Text Updates
As per the spokesperson, the respective move plays the role of an opportunity related to a distinctive space. In this way, the public figures and the creators will be permitted to share updates regarding their interests in time. Recently, Moneycontrol.com (a financial news platform) reported this while referring to the sources. The report mentioned that the latest content app of Meta would be compatible with ActivityPub. ActivityPub is a decentralized protocol for social networking.
The platform is credited for running Mastodon (another competitor of Twitter) and the rest of the federated applications. Due to the centralized nature of Facebook and Twitter, both forums are administered by one authority. On the other hand, the decentralized platforms provide several positive features in this respect. These companies, among which Mastodon is also included, are not in the control of any single authority.
The Exclusive DApp Would Be Branded by Instagram
Instead of this, they are run by several computer servers, and the volunteer administrators – those who link the systems with each other for making federation – are credited to run them. The latest application of the social media firm would be branded by Instagram and will permit the customers to log in or register via their Instagram-related credentials.
