In a landmark move, Theta Labs, the leading decentralized video delivery network, is partnering with the beloved 90’s children’s game POG. The partnership aims to breathe new life into the vintage game by introducing digital collectibles to appeal to both millennials and Generation Z players who recall the nostalgic joy of playing the game.
POG: The Game of Yesteryears
POG was originally known as the Milk Caps game, but it grew immensely popular under the name POG, an acronym for Pineapple, Orange, and Guaver. This children’s collectible game once boasted a player base of 165 million, raking in massive weekly revenues according to historical data.
Despite its enormous success, POG’s appeal faded over the past two decades. Today, the company seeks to spark nostalgia and engage the millennials and GenZ demographics who spent their childhoods engrossed in the game. The game has been rebranded as POG Digital in this latest endeavor, and in collaboration with Theta Labs, the team hopes to offer digital collectibles based on the beloved game to its ardent fans.
The Advent of POGCHAIN on Theta Network
In an official announcement, Theta Labs and POG declared their collaboration to create POGCHAIN, a dedicated subchain on the Theta Network. POGCHAIN is set to feature TNT20 tokens and NFT (Non-Fungible Token) digital collectibles within the Theta Metachain environment.
These unique digital collectibles will be exclusively available through the Theta’s patented POG Collector platform. The digital memorabilia aims to combine both physical and virtual experiences, providing an immersive gaming experience for the players.
A United Vision for the Future
Kyler Frisbee, CEO of POG Digital, shared his excitement about the partnership: “POG has always focused on fostering connections through fun competition and engaging art collection. Our collaboration with Theta Labs will enable us to create an expansive ecosystem, connecting our collections across multiple blockchains such as Solana, Ethereum, and Bitcoin.”
Frisbee also emphasized that the revitalized game, though designed to invoke millennial and GenZ nostalgia, is open to enthusiasts of all ages.
“POGCHAIN will enable fans from different generations to engage with POG collectibles, enjoy partnered games, and utilize Pogger coins in secure and transparent environments. We’re not just bringing POG back into the limelight; we’re catapulting it into the future,” he said.
Mitch Liu, the co-founder and CEO of Theta Labs, expressed his delight in the collaboration, “Physical and Web3 collectibles have two things in common – they offer emotional value to their holders and provide full ownership. POGCHAIN, built on the Theta Metachain architecture, with new TNT20 tokens on the Theta network and video content, enables the development of a brand new ecosystem.”
Celebrating the Launch with Collector’s Box
POG Digital also marked its first anniversary in the Web3 domain by announcing the release of its first Collector’s Box in 25 years. The box includes 48 unique pieces of artwork drawn from the POG archives. All these items can be authenticated on the Ethereum, Solana, and Bitcoin blockchains, reaffirming the company’s commitment to integrate POG into the digital world.
