Blockchainreporter sat down with Kalin Stoyanchev, Project lead at RNDR, to discuss the future of blockchain, the place that the technology has in Hollywood and what RNDR is coming up within the future.
Q: Former Israeli prime minister Ehud Bark referred to Cryptocurrency as a ‘ponzi Scheme’ but acknowledges the benefits of Blockchain. Do you think the recent downturn in the bitcoin price has caused people to lose faith in crypto as a whole?
A: No, I don’t think so. When the price of Bitcoin skyrockets and everyone gets in to make “quick cash”, people who are in it just for the speculative gains and excitement are generally the ones that “lose faith” when there’s a much-needed correction. However, the people and companies that are actually building solutions on blockchain don’t care as much about the day-to-day (or even month-to-month) price movements of the underlying crypto market – the technology is here to stay.
Times like these tend to reveal those who are truly passionate about the technology and those who are not.
Q: There has been a significant increase in the number of industries that make use of blockchain. Do you think Blockchain will, inevitably, become bigger than Cryptocurrency in terms of public use?
I think so. Blockchain has so many uses – from supply chain to transportation to pretty much any interaction or industry that involves two or more parties. I think crypto as a currency method has a definite future in finance and the way that specific systems interact with payment + utility tokens, however, blockchain is a more universal system that can greatly upgrade existing centralized platforms.
Q: OTOY tech has been used in a number of Hollywood blockbusters. How do you see utility projects changing the way visual content is created, particularly in Hollywood?
The ability for any studio, whether they’re big or small, to have access to a wide array of power and GPUs greatly increases their capacity and capability to continue to create amazing visual effects and renderings. When you don’t have to worry about where the power comes from and the security surrounding your rendered work, you’re able to focus on the finished product – because of this, I’m excited to see what RNDR helps create.
Q: How is what RNDR does better than traditional graphics creation?
There is no centralized GPU rendering source that can cater to the scale needed for this new era of physically correct + realistic renderings that are just now coming to the forefront of entertainment and visual arts. Other than the fact that RNDR is secure and decentralized, content creators and RNDR providers are able to match to each other in ways that don’t exist or are inefficient in the current centralized marketplace. Bottom line – RNDR will open the gates for anyone to have access to the network, and thus a trove of GPUs for all users to power their creations.
Q: How does RNDR intend to convince the powers that be in the entertainment industry to make the switch to Blockchain-based graphic creation?
A: As mentioned above, there is a serious need for this power. Unless you shell out massive amounts of money and time to build your own GPU rendering rigs, there is no safe and secure option for rendering. As OTOY has a significant track record in this space, we have the ability and experience to solve the issues that the industry faces, which benefits the service and product of our platform.
Q: What is next for RNDR in 2019?
A: We are slated to launch our RNDR mainnet in 2019, bringing on users and content creators alike to take part in our platform. We have had a working platform for about a year now, and have steadily brought on beta testers over the past 3 months to try RNDR. Stay tuned for our platform to give access to all in 2019.
About RNDR
From the creators of a leading cloud graphics company, OTOY, whose technology has been used in the creation of world-renowned productions including Westworld and Star Wars: Rogue One, RNDR transforms the power of GPU compute into a decentralized economy of connected 3D assets. Because RNDR is a utility-based project and its market is based on the intrinsic value of GPU, it is a platform that is pushing forward full steam ahead despite the current market fluctuations of other crypto assets.
Powered by the Ethereum blockchain, RNDR provides content creators, scientists, and anyone else requiring complex rendering activity with a secure and affordable solution.
