In a groundbreaking move that underscores the growing mainstream acceptance of cryptocurrency, Crypto.com has launched its payment solution, Crypto.com Pay, at Adelaide Oval. This initiative, a collaboration with Adelaide Oval, the Adelaide Crows, and financial systems software firm DataMesh, marks a world-first integration of this scale.
The service will debut today at the AFL’s “Gather Round” event, allowing sports enthusiasts and concert-goers to use cryptocurrency for purchases at various food and drink outlets within Adelaide Oval. Customers opting to pay with cryptocurrency will select Crypto.com Pay as their preferred payment method during checkout. This selection will generate a dynamic QR code on the merchant terminal, which the customer can scan using their Crypto.com App.
The customer then chooses and authorizes their preferred cryptocurrency for the transaction. To celebrate the launch, the first 1,000 transactions during the Gather Round event will receive AUD$10 cashback. Further promotions are planned for the 2024 Toyota AFL Premiership Season and Adelaide Crows’ home games.
Accelerating Crypto Adoption in Australia
The Adelaide Oval initiative represents another significant step towards the mainstream adoption of cryptocurrency, offering fans a convenient and secure alternative payment method. As both the Adelaide Crows and Crypto.com look forward to future collaborations, the partnership promises to redefine the fan experience at Adelaide Oval and beyond.
Karl Mohan, General Manager for APAC at Crypto.com, commented on the company’s ongoing commitment to innovation: “Australians continue to adopt cryptocurrency at a rapid rate and as a company, we are constantly innovating to find new ways for people to use crypto in the real world.”
Karl further stated that the payment technology introduced by Crypto.com at Adelaide Oval is user-friendly for both the merchant and customer and highly scalable. He added: “We see a lot of promise for future integrations like this. As a major sponsor of the Adelaide Crows and the AFL, it is exciting to launch this trial during one of the biggest and busiest rounds of the season, and we’re delighted to be able to provide an easy new payment method to thousands of fans.”
Tim Silvers, CEO of Adelaide Crows, praised Crypto.com as an innovative partner: “We are always looking for ways to collaborate with our partners to deliver new initiatives, such as this one, to our members and fans. Whether it’s membership offerings or in this case purchasing food and beverage on game day, we also want to give our supporters the opportunity to choose what best suits them.”
Mark Nagy, CEO of DataMesh, highlighted the company’s mission: “From the outset, our mission has been to dismantle the barriers between traditional payments and the potential use of digital currencies. We empower consumers by enabling smooth and secure cryptocurrency transactions, unlocking a new frontier of payment acceptance.”
This announcement follows Crypto.com’s recent partnership with DataMesh and OTR to launch Australia’s first in-store cryptocurrency payment system in over 440 Peregrine retail outlets across Victoria, South Australia, and Western Australia. The trial of Crypto.com Pay will continue throughout the remainder of the 2024 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.
