American Fortress, a popular blockchain security entity, has unveiled a post-quantum security model. With the new quantum-safe framework, American Fortress aims to secure the current cryptocurrency wallets from any computing threats in the future.
As per American Fortress’ official research paper, the proposed technology protects wallets without any need for consumers to shift from addresses or blockchains to change their core protocols. The company’s approach is reportedly twenty-one times more effective in comparison with a proposal that the Ethereum Foundation put forward.
American Fortress Offers Quantum-Safe Wallet Protection Model
American Fortress’ exclusive quantum-safe model is set to shield crypto wallets while requiring no cross-chain or address migration. Additionally, in line with the new research paper released by the platform, the proposal is 21 times more efficient than Ethereum Foundation’s comparable proposal. At the same time, the researchers are anticipating the respective advantage to ultimately hit 210 times.
Particularly, the model is set to operate across the top blockchain ecosystems instead of being restricted to Ethereum. Interestingly, the system needs no user action, letting wallets remain operational without any alterations to the current key formats or addresses. At the moment, the latest advancement regarding the quantum hardware has decreased the time estimates for the practicality of cryptographically capable quantum computers.
Keeping this in view, such machines could get the capability to execute Shor’s algorithm of Shor against the broadly utilized elliptic curve cryptography. As a result, they could theoretically obtain private keys from any uncovered public keys, risking millions of crypto wallets. For conventional proposals regarding post-quantum migration, blockchain networks usually need to adopt totally exclusive signature schemes.
ZKPoSP and QBIP32 Strengthen Wallets without Any Protocol Changes
As per the report, the respective upgrades normally include altering public key designs, forcing consumers to migrate capital to new wallet addresses, or registering unique keys, challenging wallet holders and blockchain developers. On the other hand, American Fortress’ proposed solution is fundamentally different. Rather than altering blockchain protocols or replacing wallet addresses, the model replaces just the signing procedure.
This model leverages the Interactive Zero-Knowledge (NIZK) proof, demonstrating knowledge of the seed of a wallet while securing the address format. According to American Fortress, the integration of the universal key derivation design QBIP32 is the main contribution of the new initiative to enable operation across diverse elliptic curve implementations.
Moreover, the researchers have unveiled Zero-Knowledge Proof of Seed Provenance (ZKPoSP) to split proof generation into a simple signing proof for each transfer, and a single-time derivation proof specified for every key pair. Ultimately, if effectively developed, the new system could deliver a practical method to shield current crypto wallets against quantum threats in the future without any change to the present blockchain infrastructure.
