The newest additions to the crypto space are two Spanish football clubs, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. Today, these two football giants showed their interest by filing a joint trademark for their crypto and Metaverse-related applications. According to American Metaverse trademark and patent attorney Michael Kondoudism, both clubs show interest in covering their cryptocurrency transaction and Metaverse offerings and continue exploring the Metaverse world with the trademark.
The hype around the Metaverse has not deflated despite the trading volume of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) going down in the second quarter of 2022. Every day, organisations, brands, and celebrities across the globe are flocking to apply for crypto-Metaverse-related trademarks to expand their businesses with the Metaverse hype.
Details Of The Trademark
According to Michael Kondoudism, the trademark application was filed at the United States Patent and Trademark (USPTO) Office on 5 August with the serial number’ 97536450.’ Real Madrid and FC Barcelona registered the trademark covering protection for crypto-related applications, including augmented cryptographic virtual reality software to manage cryptocurrency transactions on blockchain technology and also seeks protection for virtual reality clothing, footwear, headgear, sportswear and more. The mark for the joint trademark features a giant ‘C’ with both the teams’ logos on either side.
The e-commerce and e-payment technology used by these powerhouses of the LaLiga football league would also be protected by the trademark. Users would be able to conduct electronic business transactions over a computer network in a secure manner with the assistance of this technology. Each of the clubs also offers their very own fan coins to purchase.
A Continuous Web3 Expansion
Earlier in the month of June, the English Premier League (EPL) filed trademark applications for two cryptocurrencies, and the league dropped hints that it might enter the Metaverse industry. Almost immediately after that, in July, the soccer team Crystal Palace, which plays in the Premier League, also registered a trademark that covered crypto and NFT products.
FC Barcelona and Real Madrid both have ventured into the multiverse as well. Madrid fans can experience the San Bernabeu stadium from anywhere in the world by using the multiverse technology launched earlier in 2022. Barcelona is also planning to offer the same multiverse experience for Camp Nou, but an actual release date has yet to be revealed officially. FC Barcelona is currently experiencing an ample number of financial hardships. Hence, stepping into the crypto world is another way to lessen the club’s burden further. However, researchers from the Bank of England analysed that the widespread use of cryptocurrencies in a fully formed Metaverse could be a systemic danger to financial stability.
