Quick Answer
Is XRP a good investment in 2026? It depends on how much risk you can take, and the picture has changed since spring. XRP traded near $1.25 at about 20:00 UTC on November 2, 2026, down about 32% this year and about 66% below its July 2025 record of about $3.65, even though the SEC case against Ripple is over, five US spot XRP ETFs hold about $1.42 billion and Ripple says it is approaching $900 million in annualized product revenue. Published forecasts for the end of 2026 run from about $0.89 (CoinLore’s base case) to $2.80 (Standard Chartered, cut from $8 in February). XRP is a volatile, high-risk asset with real business news behind it, not a safe bet, and this article is analysis, not investment advice.

What Is XRP?
XRP is the native token of the XRP Ledger, a public blockchain that David Schwartz, Jed McCaleb and Arthur Britto began developing in 2011 and launched in June 2012, according to XRPL.org. The founders gave 80 billion XRP to the company that became Ripple, which has since placed most of it in escrow. Transactions on the ledger settle in 3 to 5 seconds, and the minimum transaction cost is 10 drops (0.00001 XRP), which is destroyed rather than paid to anyone.
Ripple, the company, uses XRP and its RLUSD stablecoin in its cross-border payment, custody and treasury products for banks and payment firms. The token and the company are separate, but the market treats them as closely linked, and XRP holders receive no share of Ripple’s revenue.
That link made XRP one of crypto’s most contested assets for almost five years. The SEC sued Ripple in December 2020. In July 2023, a federal judge ruled that Ripple’s programmatic sales of XRP on exchanges were not investment contracts, while its direct sales to institutions were. On August 7, 2025, the SEC said both sides had agreed to dismiss their appeals, leaving in place a final judgment with a civil penalty of about $125 million and an injunction, according to its litigation release.
Pros of Investing in XRP
The legal overhang is gone. The SEC case ended in August 2025, and on March 17, 2026, the SEC and the CFTC issued a joint interpretation that named XRP, along with Bitcoin, Ether and Solana, as an example of a digital commodity rather than a security, according to a summary by law firm Jenner & Block. Major US platforms, including Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Binance.US and Robinhood, list XRP.
Spot ETFs give regulated access. Five US spot XRP ETFs, from Bitwise, Franklin Templeton, Canary Capital, 21Shares and Grayscale, began trading from November 2025. They have drawn about $1.81 billion in cumulative net inflows and held about $1.42 billion in net assets on October 30, according to SoSoValue, with $307.9 million of inflows in the third quarter of 2026. Our XRP ETF guide covers all eleven XRP funds, their fees and their flows.
Ripple’s payment business is growing. Ripple said on October 28 that it is on track to exit 2026 with about $900 million in annualized product revenue, a company figure that is not audited. On October 26 it received final approval from the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency for Ripple National Trust Bank, and on October 27 it said BNY now supports XRP and RLUSD on its digital asset custody platform. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse said in June 2025 that XRP could capture 14% of SWIFT’s volume within five years, a goal rather than a forecast.
RLUSD brings activity to the XRP Ledger. Ripple’s dollar stablecoin had a market value of about $2.41 billion on November 2, ranking 35th on CoinMarketCap. It runs on seven networks, including the XRP Ledger and Ethereum, and is backed one to one by dollar deposits, US Treasuries and cash equivalents, with BNY as primary custodian, according to Ripple. RLUSD transfers on the XRP Ledger pay small fees in XRP, which are destroyed.
Top-five size with deep liquidity. XRP is the fifth-largest cryptocurrency by market value and the fourth-largest outside stablecoins, and it traded about $1.50 billion over 24 hours on November 2, according to CoinMarketCap. Liquidity at this level lets most buyers enter and exit without large price impact.
Cons of Investing in XRP
A deep drawdown from the 2025 record. XRP has fallen about 66% from its July 2025 high and about 32% in 2026 alone, more than Bitcoin (down about 12%) or Ether (down about 24%) over the same period. It dropped below $1 in August 2026, lost about 16% in October and is down about 50% over 12 months, according to CoinMarketCap. Good news on regulation and ETFs has not stopped the decline.
Escrow supply keeps arriving. Ripple releases 1 billion XRP from escrow on the first day of each month and has recently re-locked about 700 million of each release, adding roughly 300 million tokens a month, or about 3.6 billion a year, to supply. None of the November 1 release had been re-locked by 10:50 UTC that day, according to on-chain data cited by crypto.news and Coinpaper, leaving about 30.4 billion XRP in escrow. Our explainer on Ripple’s monthly escrow unlocks shows how this supply reaches the market.
ETF demand is small next to XRP’s size. The spot XRP funds hold about 1.8% of XRP’s market value, against about 6.4% for the US spot Bitcoin ETFs and about 4.8% for the Ether ETFs, based on SoSoValue net assets and CoinMarketCap market caps. In October they took in only about $19 million, and their net assets fell from $1.69 billion to $1.42 billion as the price dropped.
Banks do not need XRP to use Ripple, and competition is heavy. Banks can use Ripple’s products, including RLUSD, without holding XRP. In stablecoins, RLUSD’s $2.41 billion compares with about $180 billion for Tether’s USDT and about $71 billion for USDC, so it holds about 1% of the three combined. XRP also pays no staking yield.
Regulatory status rests on an interpretation, not a law. The CLARITY Act, which would set federal market structure rules, failed a Senate procedural vote 49 to 50 on September 15, 2026, according to Bitcoin.com News, and has not become law. A future SEC could revise its interpretation. Our CLARITY Act explainer tracks the bill.
XRP Price Predictions for 2026
The figures below come from named banks and forecasting models, not from Blockchainreporter, and we publish no price target of our own. They are reference points, not guarantees, and forecasts for XRP have been revised sharply before.
| Source | Date of Forecast | End of 2026 | 2030 | Implied Move to End of 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Chartered (Geoffrey Kendrick) | Note of February 12, 2026, reported by DL News | $2.80 (cut from $8) | $28 | About +125% |
| CoinCodex (algorithmic model) | Updated November 1, 2026 | $1.31 (December average) | $4.33 | About +5% |
| Telegaon (base case) | Updated November 1, 2026 | $1.50 | $3.50 | About +20% |
| CoinLore (base case) | Updated November 2, 2026 | $0.89 (range $0.53 to $3.54) | $2.17 | About 29% lower |
Implied moves are from about $1.25 on November 2, 2026. Standard Chartered’s targets as reported by DL News and CCN; model figures read on November 1 and 2, 2026. Changelly’s published figures closely track CoinCodex’s, so we do not count them as a separate model.
Standard Chartered’s end-2026 target of $2.80 was cut by 65% in February, when the bank said it expected further declines across crypto; it kept $28 for 2030. Reaching $2.80 by December 31 would take a gain of about 125% in under two months. The models, which are built mainly on past prices, cluster much closer to today’s level. Our XRP price prediction has the full year-by-year table, and our analysis of how high XRP can go sets out the market cap math behind targets from $5 to $500.
What Could Move XRP in 2026
These are the dated events and data points that could move XRP in the rest of the year.
Binance’s restart after the hack (November 3 and 4). Binance was hacked on October 29, a theft the exchange estimated at about $6.3 billion, and began reopening withdrawals in phases on November 1, with the XRP Ledger among the first 15 networks. On November 2 it said the zero-knowledge proof for its October 31 reserves snapshot is complete; the next withdrawal phase is planned for November 3 and the next snapshot for November 4. Our report on Binance reopening withdrawals has the timeline.
XRP Ledger upgrades. The fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment is on course to activate on November 4 at about 14:46 UTC if validator support holds, according to XRPScan data. The Lending Protocol amendment, which would add native lending, had the support of 19 of 35 validators on November 2, against the 28 it needs.

Bitcoin is the largest and most widely held crypto asset, with a fixed supply and by far the largest ETF market. It has also held up best this year.
Ethereum is the main smart contract platform for decentralized finance, stablecoins and tokenized assets, and Ether can be staked for yield.
XRP is a bet on payments and tokenized finance on the XRP Ledger and on Ripple’s products driving demand for the token. If that demand does not grow, XRP remains a large, liquid but highly volatile asset whose supply keeps rising.
How to Buy XRP
XRP is listed on most major exchanges. In the US, Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Binance.US and Robinhood all offer it, although state rules can limit which platforms you can use; Binance.com does not serve US residents. Spot XRP ETFs can be bought through brokerage accounts that support ETF trading, and their annual fees range from 0.19% to 0.50%.
Our step-by-step guide on how to buy XRP compares fees, payment methods and platforms. If you hold XRP yourself rather than through an ETF, a non-custodial wallet such as Xaman (formerly XUMM) or a hardware wallet such as a Ledger keeps the keys in your hands. A new XRP Ledger address needs at least 1 XRP as a reserve, and the wallet’s recovery phrase should be stored offline; our seed phrase guide explains why.
Should You Buy XRP Now? How People Size and Time Purchases
No one can reliably time the bottom of a market, and we do not tell readers when to buy. What follows describes the approaches investors commonly use.
Lump sum or dollar-cost averaging. A lump sum puts the whole amount to work at one price. Dollar-cost averaging spreads the same amount over regular purchases, for example weekly or monthly, so the average entry price follows the market. Averaging reduces the risk of buying everything at a peak, but it does not prevent losses if the price keeps falling, and each purchase can carry its own trading fee.
Position size. Many investors decide in advance how much they could afford to lose entirely and size a crypto position within that limit. XRP’s history shows why: it fell about 97% from its January 2018 high to its March 2020 low on CoinMarketCap and Binance data, and about 73% from its July 2025 high to its August 2026 low on Binance.
Direct coins or an ETF. Holding XRP directly lets you move it to your own wallet but makes you responsible for security. A spot ETF keeps exposure inside a brokerage or retirement account and charges an annual fee, with no wallet to manage.
Chart levels and dates. Traders watch observed levels such as support near $1.24 and $1.20 and resistance near $1.27 and $1.34 on Binance XRP/USDT data, and fixed dates such as the monthly escrow release. These are observations, not forecasts. In the US, sales and swaps of XRP must be reported and can trigger capital gains tax, according to the IRS.
Is XRP Safe? Key Risks to Know
XRP is a functioning, widely traded asset, but it is not safe in the sense of protecting your money. The main risks:
- Price risk: drawdowns of more than 70% have happened at least twice since 2018, and the token can fall further without any company-specific news.
- Custody risk: about 233.46 million XRP were among the assets stolen in the Binance hack, according to TRM Labs data cited by CoinDesk. Binance says its XRP balances are fully backed, its own claim. Assets held on any exchange depend on that exchange’s security and solvency.
- Supply risk: about 30% of all XRP sits in Ripple’s escrow and is released at 1 billion tokens a month.
- Regulatory risk: XRP’s US treatment rests on an SEC interpretation, not on legislation, and rules differ by country.
- Network risk: the XRP Ledger has run since 2012, but software still needs fixes; version 3.4.1 was an emergency release in September 2026 that fixed security-sensitive issues, according to XRPL.org.
- Rumor and scam risk: a fake 2023 filing for an “iShares XRP Trust” briefly lifted XRP’s price, Bloomberg reported. Check claims against company or regulator sources, and never share a wallet’s recovery phrase.
Our analysis of whether XRP is dead covers the bear arguments in more depth.
So, Is XRP a Good Investment?
It depends on what you want from a crypto position and how much volatility you can live with.
The case for XRP is stronger if:
- You want exposure to a top-five crypto asset with US spot ETFs and no open SEC case
- You believe payments and tokenized assets will move onto blockchains such as the XRP Ledger
- You expect Ripple’s growth, RLUSD and new ledger features to lift demand for the token
- You hold for years rather than weeks and can accept drawdowns of 50% or more
The case is weaker if:
- You expect very large multiples; at about $79 billion, XRP is already a large asset
- You are concerned about Ripple’s escrow and its steady release of new supply
- You think stablecoins will handle cross-border payments without XRP
- You want yield, since XRP has no native staking
- You need money you cannot afford to lose
The balanced summary: the regulatory risk that dominated XRP for years has largely cleared, and Ripple’s business is expanding, yet XRP is down about a third in 2026 and about two thirds from its 2025 record. Published forecasts for the end of 2026 range from about $0.89 to $2.80, which shows how uncertain the outlook is. Whether XRP is a good investment depends on whether new demand from ETFs, RLUSD and the ledger outpaces new supply, and no one knows that yet.

FAQ: Is XRP a Good Investment?
Is XRP a good investment in 2026?
That depends on your risk tolerance, and XRP has been a poor performer this year. XRP traded near $1.25 on November 2, 2026, down about 32% in 2026 and about 66% below its July 2025 record, despite the end of the SEC case and the launch of spot ETFs. Forecasts for the end of 2026 range from about $0.89 to $2.80. This is not investment advice.
Should I buy XRP now?
No one can tell you reliably whether now is the right time. XRP has traded between about $1.20 and $1.27 since October 30, after the Binance hack, and fear dominates the market. Many investors use dollar-cost averaging rather than one purchase and limit crypto to an amount they could lose. Decide based on your own finances and time horizon, not on a forecast.
Can XRP reach $5?
It would take a gain of about 300% from about $1.25 and a market value of about $317 billion at today’s supply, more than Ether is worth now. XRP has never traded above $3.84. Standard Chartered’s $28 for 2030 implies it, but the models we track put XRP at $2.17 to $4.33 in 2030, so $5 sits above their central figures.
Can XRP reach $10?
A $10 XRP would be worth about $634 billion at today’s supply, about 2.3 times Ether’s current value, and would need a gain of about 700%. Standard Chartered’s 2030 target of $28 and Bitwise’s March 2025 maximum case of $29.32 for 2030 exceed it, but no model we track reaches $10 in 2030. It would likely need a strong crypto bull market.
Is XRP safe to invest in?
XRP is a legitimate, widely traded asset with US spot ETFs and no open SEC case, but it is not safe in the sense of protecting capital. It fell about 97% between 2018 and 2020 and about 73% from July 2025 to August 2026. Exchange hacks, escrow supply and changing regulation add further risk. Only invest what you could afford to lose entirely.
Is XRP a good long-term investment?
The long-term case depends on whether banks and payment firms use the XRP Ledger and XRP itself, not just Ripple’s products. Ripple expects about $900 million in annualized product revenue by the end of 2026, but holders get no share of it, and escrow releases add about 3.6 billion XRP a year at recent re-lock rates. Long-term forecasts for 2030 range from about $2.17 to $28.
Can XRP make me rich?
Probably not on the scale some social media posts suggest. At about $79 billion, XRP is already one of the largest crypto assets, so a 10 times gain would require a market value near $790 billion, above Ether’s today. Its past cycle gains have shrunk each time, from about 600 times in 2017 to about 13 times from 2022 to 2025. Treat any promise of extreme returns with suspicion.
Is XRP better than Bitcoin?
They do different jobs. Bitcoin is a fixed-supply store of value with about $98 billion in US spot ETF assets, while XRP is a payments-focused token whose supply grows through Ripple’s escrow releases. In 2026 so far, Bitcoin is down about 12% and XRP about 32%. Many investors who own XRP hold it alongside Bitcoin rather than instead of it.
What is Standard Chartered’s XRP price target?
Standard Chartered’s Geoffrey Kendrick cut the bank’s end-2026 XRP target from $8 to $2.80 in a February 12, 2026 note, citing weak price action and expecting further declines, DL News reported. The bank kept its $28 target for 2030. From about $1.25 on November 2, the 2026 target would require a gain of about 125% in under two months.
What is the safest way to store XRP?
For long-term holdings, many investors use a hardware wallet or a non-custodial app such as Xaman and keep the recovery phrase offline, never in a photo or cloud note. A new XRP Ledger address needs at least 1 XRP as a reserve. Coins left on an exchange depend on its security, as the October 2026 Binance hack showed. Spot ETFs avoid self-custody entirely.
How is XRP taxed?
In the US, the IRS treats XRP as a digital asset that must be reported whether or not a transaction produces a gain or loss. Selling, swapping or spending it can trigger capital gains tax, with short-term rates for holdings of one year or less, and brokers now report on Form 1099-DA. ETF holders also owe tax on gains when they sell shares. Rules differ by country, so check locally.
